The following are common concerns or questions asked by our clients:

When should I book my plane ticket to arrive in Houston?

Ideally you should plan to arrive in Houston two days before your initial appointment day. This will allow you/us to complete the hospital registration and paperwork before the appointment in order to avoid any unforeseen problems or delays.

What medical information should I bring with me?

Even if you have sent all your medical records in advance by email to your physician we recommend that you contact the hospital to confirm what documents and records you are required to bring with you

Will the hospital receive me (patient) through the Emergency Room?

We have observed that in the rush to be seen by the doctor in Houston, many patients – and sometimes under the advice of their home country doctors – decide to fly to Houston and go directly to the Emergency Room (ER) to be admitted.

From our experience we have seen that most of the time the ER will receive and admit the patients. However, it is important to take into account that the ER will very likely run several tests that may or may not be what your treating physician will order and the cost of such tests may have an impact on your medical bill, especially if you do not have medical insurance coverage.

How far is the Houston airport from the medical center?

Houston’s George Bush International Airport (IAH) is 24 miles/34 km from the Texas Medical Center. Houston’s Hobby Airport (HOU) is located 12 miles/20 km from the Texas Medical Center.

Can you pick us up at the airport?

Yes, picking you up at the airport and providing you transportation back to the airport when you are ready to return to your home country is one of our services.

Do you provide accommodation services?

Yes, we have apartment units conveniently located close to the Texas Medical Center. Not only are our apartments closely located,  but they are also furnished specifically to accommodate the needs of patients and caregivers.

We know that the needs of patients and caregivers are unique and different from a normal business or vacation traveler, and we have furnished and supplied our units with this in mind.

We are traveling with no health insurance. Are there other pharmacies beside the one in the hospital where we can get our prescription medicines?

Unfortunately we have seen that prices for prescription medicine inside the hospitals’ pharmacies are extremely expensive when not covered by insurance. We have researched all of the pharmacies in the area and know how and where to get the prescription medications at more favorable prices

Is there a daycare facility in the hospital for kids?

No, the Texas Medical Center does not have a daycare, but we can help you contacting babysitters that we have worked previously with, are highly recommended, and are available for you to interview.

If we are in Houston with an immigrant Visa, what happens if the caregiver and patient have to stay for longer than the granted entry time?

Most of our clients from Latin America and the Caribbean arrive to the USA with a B1/B2 tourist visa that upon arrival normally grants up to a six (6) months entry. The entry period is always at the discretion of the immigration officer.

If the patient or caregivers’ granted entry period is shorter than the duration of the treatment, we can assist you in completing the corresponding USCIS form(s) required to apply for an extension of stay. For other more specific cases, we can refer you to an expert immigration attorney.
