My personal journey with cancer began in the summer of 2016 when my husband Fred was diagnosed with a type of blood cancer and shortly thereafter started receiving treatment at the most prominent cancer hospital in Houston.
Due to my husband’s condition, I stopped working in order to become his full-time caregiver and between all of the appointments, tests, scans, chemotherapy treatments and labs we spent three to five days a week at the hospital over the next eighteen months.
Once we settled into our “routine”, I found myself with some spare time and I felt that I could help other patients and caregivers who were going through the same scary journey that we were. It was then that I chose to become a volunteer at the hospital, a decision that would forever change my life.
